Hope takes many forms as You Turn Ministries reaches out to rural villages across Malawi. With local pastors, You Turn staff and US partners like Sale Street Baptist Church, the eight new churches planted in the Machinga District are being discipled on a quarterly basis. Church leaders are receiving training and curriculum to help them maintain healthy churches.
The hope of better physical health arrived in the Msundwe area when You Turn restored clean water access to 19 villages in August. Thanks to donors who gave to water projects, families have hope again in communities like Chibweza and Katondo. You Turn staff also shared the Gospel at every location while educating villagers in simple pump maintenance.
30 students are now participating at two Pastor Training Schools, with a third location and class to start soon. These dedicated men and their teachers set aside 5 days each month to gather at a local church and pursue pastoral certification. They will spend two years together studying the Bible and learning to be pastors in rural villages. This is part of You Turn’s commitment to Proclaim, Prepare and Provide for Malawians to reach Malawians with the Gospel.
The children who attend before or after school at our orphan Lighthouse feeding programs are one or two-parent orphans who live with relatives or other guardians. The Lighthouses also provide educational support and a safe place to learn about the Bible.
Each year at Christmas, orphans, teachers and employees at You Turn’s Lighthouse feeding programs gather to celebrate and hear the story of Jesus’ birth.
Our goal is to provide each of the orphans with a backpack filled with an age-appropriate toy, hygiene items and ingredients for a special Christmas meal to take home to the families they live with. These are tough times in Malawi where the food inflation rate is at 42% year-on-year. For many of these children, this is the only gift they will receive.
Currently, we have a Matching Funds Campaign where donations to our general fund will be matched up to $125,000 through October 31, 2024. Donations to our general fund enable us to provide:
- essential discipleship and church leadership training
- orphan care and Christmas celebrations at our Lighthouses
- clean water projects in rural villages and
- emergency food distribution in districts where food scarcity is increasing daily
