Transforming Lives in Malawi: Preparing for 2025

You Turn is dedicated to serving the people of Malawi, bringing hope and transformation through various initiatives. In 2024, our work in the areas of water access, church planting, discipleship, and orphan care followed our Proclaim, Prepare and Provide strategy.

Water Projects:

Since the village well was repaired in November, Bodzalibwera has enjoyed clean water. “I’m glad the well has been repaired,” said Esau Njoka, who has six children. Esau expressed his gratitude for a nearby water source that would not contaminate his family with disease. “With access to clean water, I am living a healthy life with no illness.”

Thanks to our donors and partners, You Turn’s water team repaired 96 wells in 2024. Our budgeted goal is 83 well repairs this year, but we know God can provide additional funds to touch more lives with clean water and the Gospel in 2025.

Church Planting

Pastor Training Schools

All three Pastor Training Schools met in December, marking a milestone in our dedication to preparing pastors to serve rural villages. 6-Mile School met for the first time with a full roster of fifteen students and began its two-year training (photo above).

In 2025, we plan to establish three more schools in areas of Malawi where pastor training is unavailable. We’re seeking churches, Sunday School classes, or families to partner with us in preparing the next generation of men to proclaim the Gospel in rural villages. Please share this blog with your church or small group and see where God leads you!

Discipleship and Food Distribution

Despite the challenges of nationwide fuel rationing, You Turn’s Malawi Team traveled to the Machinga District in December to encourage churches and disciple believers and distribute emergency food boxes.

The eight churches that hosted enjoyed good attendance and sound doctrinal teaching, while 19 villages received emergency food boxes to help sustain them. In villages like Nchimbo, where the average-sized family is eight people, these meals fill the gap while families wait for their crops to mature. In 2024, Malawi experienced a 27%-32% inflation rate and a second typhoon in as many years.

Partners for the discipleship and food distribution included:

  • You Turn donors – funds for distribution
  • Sale Street Baptist Church – funds for discipleship training
  • World Help and their partner Manna – provision of the shipping container and food packets

Orphans

Christmas Party Results

The Lighthouse orphans and staff enjoyed clear skies for their Christmas party. This year, the children were thrilled to receive rain ponchos to help them cope with the rainy season (summer). Ponchos can be worn over backpacks to keep school supplies dry. Each child received the items shown, along with a new backpack and waterproof shoes. The teachers and workers also received gifts, including umbrellas for the ladies and raincoats for the men. The children worked hard to create thank-you signs in English to show appreciation to the donors who provided these wonderful Christmas gifts. Click here to see the video: VIDEO
