Covenant Fellowship’s recent mission trip to Malawi’s Machinga District was a profound testament to the power of God’s Word and the undeniable hunger of His people. Partnering with the Malawian You Turn team and local leader Rapson, they witnessed a beautiful spiritual awakening.
Here are the key moments from their journey as told by the team leader, Hunter:
- Hungry for the Word: We packed Covenant Fellowship’s Classes 101–301 into an intense, six-hour leadership training for 40 church leaders. Despite the rapid pace, leaders were so eager that they held flashlights in their mouths after dark just to keep taking notes on Scripture.
- A Church is Born: In the Meta area, over 250 people—including village leaders and a local Muslim sheikh—gathered for a Jesus Film presentation and answered the gospel call. When one man boldly stated, “We are ready for a church,” Kagoya Baptist Church was officially planted. Three villagers even walked miles the next morning to attend leadership training!
- Faith in Action: At Mchiji Baptist Church, we expected a congregation waiting for outside aid. Instead, we found a community actively making their own bricks to build their sanctuary, beautifully blending faith with hard work.
- Building Bridges: A simple dinner invitation with Senior Chief Nyambi opened the door to deep fellowship, including a discussion of the impact of community health and how lasting change comes through Jesus Christ.
How You Can Help
The new believers at Kagoya Baptist Church didn’t ask for money or buildings—they asked for Bibles and hymn books. Please pray for this new congregation and consider your call to pray for, give to, or go be a part of the Machinga District work in Malawi.
