For the 117 households (230 families) in Chilowa Village, Malawi, the daily struggle for water was a harsh reality. Before the new well was drilled, the entire community walked a mile round-trip, several times a day, to bring home water that wasn’t safe for drinking, cooking, or bathing. The contaminated water made life difficult and caused serious stomach problems.
Richard is 43 and, with his wife Makulata, sustains his family through farming. He shared his community’s desire: “If You Turn Ministries can help us with a clean water source, we will have a healthy life.”
This well project aimed to do just that: bring a healthier life to the village and share the hope of eternal life in Jesus Christ. Jeremiah and the You Turn water team completed the well which was funded by You Turn’s generous donors. Then, Jeremiah presented the Gospel to the village. Over the next two years, the well team will teach this village how to maintain their well and share the Gospel again.
The impact of the new well is clear: “We are glad to have access to clean water and work in our fields to support our families!” reported Richard, who will oversee the well for the village.
