July was a wonderful month at the Mitundu and Dedza Lighthouses! The children have been actively demonstrating a desire to learn, including practical subjects like mathematics and English. Bible lessons at Mitundu focused on “The Love of God” and learning the hymn, “The Blood of Jesus Shall Never Lose Its Power.” Dedza Lighthouse students learned about sharing the Gospel.
People from the community around Mitundu Lighthouse appreciate that Kalebe, who had stopped attending school due to a lack of essential materials, such as exercise books and school uniforms, was able to be added to the program.
Supported by faithful donors, our commitment to nutritious meals and supplemental education for these orphans is making a difference! Teachers and adult caregivers reported a 70% pass rate for the Lighthouse students who took standardized testing this summer. Rural children in Malawi have a primary school completion rate of only 27%, according to a UNICEF report, compared to 65% for children in urban areas.
Teacher Fedriss K. shared, “The children at the Dedza program are even helping friends in their neighborhood with reading skills so they can share Bible verses with them.” Another impact Fedriss described was, “People can earn a living through selling their produce to our Lighthouse. This helps their families to improve.”
Both programs continue to have this kind of positive influence on their respective communities. We are grateful for the continued support and the opportunity to change the future of these young lives.
You can become a part of this life-changing effort for the 45 children in our programs! Your gift of any amount will offset the current cost of $22 per week for one student to participate in our program.
