Wells Repaired, Lives Changed
Aaron Bazemore, a returning mission team member from South Carolina, didn’t just visit Malawi; he acted. In the Machinga and Msundwe Districts, Aaron, alongside founder Joe Veal and the You Turn Malawi team, rolled up his sleeves and restored four vital wells. Thanks to the generous funding from First Baptist North Myrtle Beach, Aaron’s passion for repairing broken wells and sharing the Gospel directly translated into tangible change. Each repaired well means access to clean water and a chance to hear the Good News. Aaron’s dedication proves that action speaks louder than words and that even a “well-placed” effort can bring lasting transformation. Thank you, Aaron, for your dedication to serving with You Turn, and for going the extra mile, participating in emergency food distribution, and encouraging the churches in the Machinga District.
Hope Amidst Hardship: Alokiya’s Story of Resilience
In a remote village within Malawi’s Machinga District, 89-year-old Alokiya Makewa faces an extraordinary challenge. A widow, she is the sole caregiver for her five orphaned grandchildren, all too young to work and contribute to the household. Life is a constant struggle. Alokiya strives to grow her own food, but the cost of fertilizer is an insurmountable barrier. Her village, home to 162 families, is gripped by food shortages and high inflation. With an average family income of less than $20 a month – often supporting six or more people – survival is a daily battle.
Into these dire circumstances, a beacon of hope arrived. Thanks to the partnership between You Turn, World Help, and Feed My Starving Children, Alokiya received emergency food relief. The simple gift of rice brought tears of gratitude. “I am grateful,” she shared. “I never expected that I was going to eat rice today.” Alokiya’s story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a stark reminder of the urgent need for support. Your contributions are making a tangible difference, providing sustenance and hope to families like Alokiya’s in the face of overwhelming hardship.
