47% of rural Malawians still drink from unimproved water sources. You Turn and partners like World Help are providing one village at a time with clean water and the Gospel.
In an interview with the village headman Lipiton Gositino and his wife, You Turn learned that, “ The water we drank was dirty and was causing us to go the hospital and have medical bills that we do not have money to pay. This new well will allow us to do our daily activities like cooking, washing and drinking.”
By working together, 43 households in Mangwale Village have a reliable, healthy water source right near their own homes. The new well project and the follow-up maintenance also gives You Turn water technician Jeremiah Jumbo multiple opportunities to share the Gospel with the villagers of Mangwale Village.
As part of You Turn’s proactive plans for serving rural communities, candidates at our Pastor Training Schools are receiving instruction in well maintenance and repair as part of their two-year program. This integrates with our commitment to Proclaim the Gospel, Prepare disciples and Provide God’s grace through benevolent acts, like clean water projects and emergency food distribution.
The sphere of impact You Turn and our donors have expands through mutually beneficial partnerships, such as with World Help. Future projects include more emergency food distribution this fall and winter. Projections for the increase in hunger between September 2024 and March 2025 show that an additional 1.5 million Malawians will suffer from food insecurity and over 350,000 people will move from crisis level to acute need.
World Help has already dispatched a shipping container with 272,160 emergency meals that will arrive this month, supplied by the generosity of their partners and donors. With help from our donors, You Turn will distribute these meals to rural families in crisis over the next several months.
