Soccer evangelism is one of the most effective outreach approaches to date. The people of Malawi love’s soccer, AKA football! People will come out by the thousands to watch a game. Originally, we started the outreach through Mitundu Baptist Church as a
youth outreach. As the team developed, they began to look for opportunities to play other teams. So, the soccer team began going to new areas a play matches, resulting in a huge draw of villagers wanting to watch the matches. Therefore, large crowds of people began coming to the matches and the idea was born, why not preach The Gospel during half-time. Over time this developed into a full-blown outreach ministry. Now we are seeing hundreds trust the Lord every game. This has become such a great way to plant new churches in rural unreached villages.
Recently, we began a 24-team league that will play 120 games. You Turn Ministries sponsors the entire league in partnership with the governmental office of Ministry of Sports for the country of Malawi. Each game that is played throughout the country will have the gospel preached at half time! You Turn Ministries will follow up with these villages with the Jesus Film, outreach and church planting. This past spring, we were able to plant 12 new churches and share the Gospel with over 60,000 Malawians.
Would you prayerfully consider helping support these evangelistic outreach soccer efforts? The cost of operating this soccer league is $1,000 per month to cover uniforms, soccer shoes, transportation, fuels cost, and referee expenses.
